Mkhwebane’s report protects Guptas, Ace Magashule: EFF

The recent report on the Vrede dairy project in the Free State by the Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane has been called into question by The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The EFF claim that the report is an attempt to merely rescue the Premier, Ace Magashule and his associates from their wrong actions.

The EFF believe that the report is a cover-up.

In her report, Mkhwebane states that the Free State Agriculture Department is guilty of large-scale maladministration.

Mkhwebane goes on to state that Magashule needs to conduct disciplinary proceedings against those involved.

The Free State wing of the EFF are shocked by Mkhwebane’s findings and recommendations, especially since according to them it is public knowledge that R220 million went to the Guptas and their cronies.

The Congress of the People (Cope) state that Magashule cannot begin a disciplinary process on the issue when he himself is implicated in the matter.

Cope’s Deidre Carter said politicians need to be taken to task.

“The persons ultimately responsible for the Estina dairy scandal and the brazen theft and laundering of money are the person who held the executive political office, then MEC Mosebenzi Zwane and now ANC Secretary-General, Ace Magashule.”

On Sunday Mkhwebane once again came under fire from parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services over her controversial public utterances.

These include calls by Mkhwebane that terms of reference for the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into state capture be broadened beyond the recommendations of the remedial action of her predecessor Thuli Madonsela, who investigated the allegations.

The committee has now summoned Mkhwebane to come before them to explain her utterances and other allegations against her, including that her office was guilty of suppressing evidence in some investigations.

Committee Chairperson, Mathole Motshekga, said Mkhwebane’s comments were concerning, adding that the committee now wanted to know “what exactly she is trying to convey”.
