Bloemfontein based football club Mangaung Unite, have once again been crowned the 2018/19 ABC Motsepe League champions for the second time in a row.
This comes after they represented the Free State province in Limpopo at the national playoffs in June 2018, but got knocked out by TS Sporting FC on penalties after playing a 1-1 draw.
This season they managed to reach first position, winning the league with 80 points bagged from a 64 goal difference having lost not a single match. This now qualifies them to be part of the national playoffs in June this year, which will be held in Cape Town.
Mangaung Unite FC will play friendly matches in preparation for the playoffs. This will include facing teams in local and higher divisions, as well as those in the neighbouring country, Lesotho. The boys will then leave for Cape Town ahead of the playoffs, with sufficient time for them to acclimate to the new environment.
Public Eye News’ Myzer Mabeleng was there to witness the action when Managing Unite FC wrapped up the league and went to get a word from the team’s Head Coach, Morena Ramoremoli.
“It’s a great feeling. Every coach’s dream is to win the league, every coach wants to dominate. Us winning the league with 80 points without losing a game…it simply says we have done very well defensively and offensively because in football that is what you need to win a match…
I believe that team work is the best because there were matches that we could have lost, but we managed to either play a draw or win the match. Going to the playoffs is a dream that we needed to work hard for in order to achieve it. The boys are positive. They lost the opportunity last year and this year they’ve shown that they want it more than any other team,”Morena Ramoremoli, Head Coach Mangaung Unite FC
“The plans for the National First Division are there but we just need to finish with the playoffs first, when we are done then the sky is the limit”, as Ramoremoli concluded .
Mangaung Unite FC saw victory in their last match of the season by hammering Free State Stars with a 3-0 win. Later that day, their awards ceremony was held at Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein.
